Abel Tasman and Golden Bay as a Self Drive Tour, May 2020

Since we do not operate our day tours at the moment, we would recommend to do a self drive trip to Golden Bay. Why not stay one or more nights in #Takaka or #Collingwood?

After Covit 19  Lockdown  we did not want to wait too long and went over from Motueka to Takaka and to  Totaranui yesterday.

Most days in late autumn and winter are just stunning in our area, calm sea, lots of sunshine.

On our scenic drive to Takaka (about 1.15 hours from Motueka, 2 hours from Nelson) we stopped at lookouts on top of Takaka Hill and at  Paynes Ford, a rock climbing area with popular swimming holes in summer.

Takaka on a weekday is still busy and we went straight to our favourite Cafe, the Wholemeal Cafe.

It is a 40 minute drive from Takaka to Totaranui in the Abel Tasman Park, 25 minutes gravel road.

We were happy to see, that the gravel road had been graded after last season and was very comfortable to drive.

I will add a couple of hashtags of where we usually stop on our way back from Totaranui to Takaka. And if you have another day, do not miss to visit Te Waikoropupu Springs (7 km behind Takaka) and perhaps Wharariki Beach in the far North of Golden Bay? ( 1 hour drive from Takaka).

There is lots more to discover, the #GoldenBayInformationCentre  was open!
